The early cameras of Bronica were focal plane SLR cameras such as the Bronica S2, C2, EC, etc. Taped lens onto extensions and focusing helicalīronica was originally unable to manufacture it's own optics and hired Nikon. The metered prism makes it all too easy, just remember it takes a center reading.Bronica EC-TL showing separate focus unit and lens on right. I switched over to the 645 from the RB67 for those everyday shots. Used it the other week for a star trails exposure. The others can use the T setting with S & PS lenses. I have an SQ-B for 6圆 now and I have had no problems with it. The M645 just seemed more solid in your hands and I like the lens lineup. I have owned an ETR and ETRS and had problems with both.

I even have 5 rolls of Portra 400 UC that's been in my fridge for a year.ĭoes anyone know what percentage of the viewfinder the Mamiya AE Prism Finder(FE401) takes up and also what does that pan out to in degrees for the spot meter on that viewfinder? I'm thinking of getting one for my Pro TL. I ordered a 5 pack of Ilford delta 400 B&W and a 5 pack of Portra 400 VC. Is there another 'must have' accessory or part that I need to look for? It has the power winder, CdS prism, and 80mm lens. Now hopefully I can pick it up this weekend. My buddy threw in a power winder, so I couldn't say no. tough choice to make, really, but if 6x4.5 is what you want then mamiya wins for the lens variety and availability. also, wide lenses from Mamiya are just amazing. I love my M645 and was also one of those who got it for 80/1.9, and I'm happy it has less plastic parts (which is important to me since it's mostly mechanical camera) than M645 but frankly that Bronica looks just like a spaceship compared to Mamiya. If you want a light meter with the camera, make sure you get a metered prism with it. I love the square format and I'm tired of lugging around my 124G and light meter. Or I might just pick up an SQ-A or equivalent off of ebay. I'm going to run a roll through both this weekend and make a decision. I might look into the SQ-A, but my buddy is giving me such a good deal it's hard to pass up. I love mine.Įquivalence, yeah lol, that spun me out a bit because i use an etr, it is 6x4.5 not 6圆 :-) If you want an affordable 6圆 SLR, I'd get an SQ-A.

Just to be clear, the ETR series is 6x4.5-only, too. Glad I made this thread since I didn't know the 645 did 6x4.5. I thought the Mamiya 645 was called that because it was a 6x4.5 camera? If you want a small 6圆 SLR, try a Great Wall. I really want to stick with 6圆 and I would prefer a smaller size camera. I'm debating selling one, but I can't really decide which one to keep - lens selection/quality is probably the most important factor for me, but the Bronica wins in every other category. I do prefer the M645 lenses though, and the selection is much bigger. The Mamiya OTOH feels kind of flimsy to me. I like the Bronica's design a lot better, it has much better build quality, the controls feel better to me, and the interchangeable backs are a big plus. Wait, the website says one thing and the manual says another. I was looking at the Bronica Sq, but found out there is no Bulb speed. So, if you like fast lenses, the Mamiya is for you. but I also have a Bronica SQ-A because I wanted 6圆. I also picked the Mamiya because of the 1.9 too. I went with a Mamiya because you can't get an 80mm f/1.9 for the Bronica. Once I had to choose or the Bronica ETRS or the Yashica Mat 124G. Thanks in advance for any advice/thoughts.įrom personal experience I would take the Mamiya, I've had countless problems with the Bronica ETR series and that made me switch. Right now I'm leaning towards the Mamiya, but I'm wanting to get some feedback from the group. Looking on eBay I know the prices that he's asking are great, but it seems to me like the Mamiya has quite a bit more for sale (accessories, parts, etc). He's asking $175 for the Bronica and $200 for the Mamiya. I've had a Yashica Mat 124G for a few years and I'm really wanting a medium format SLR. The ones in the title are the only ones that I'm interested in. My buddy is getting rid of all of his film cameras and he's offered me a few.
